Dailuaine has put out an 8-year-old single malt finished in a first-fill Koval bourbon cask, bottled at a hearty 58.7% ABV.

The Chicago craft distillery's cooperage is doing work far from home, lending its char to a Speyside dram most drinkers know only from blender's reports. First-fill bourbon wood at cask strength usually means something, and here it means an American upstart's barrels are good enough for Scotland to borrow.

No age statement gymnastics, no finishing gimmick beyond the honest cask swap. That is the kind of simple craftsmanship worth noting.
